Course Overview

We all love a good musical, don’t we? Mamma Mia, The Greatest Showman, Beauty and the Beast are just some examples of material we will tap into as you become the all-admired triple threat! Learn to SING, ACT, DANCE!

Bring character and narrative to life with song and movement as an actor. This course is for those driven and tenacious, disciplined individuals who have the affinity to train in all 3 artforms. The stamina, coordination and flexibility needed will surely develop communication skills, active listening and reflection of feelings, confidence in expression and delivery, and resilience to push forward through tough circumstances.

Teacher’s Profile

Claire Teo is the first visually impaired person to have graduated from a professional theatre course in Singapore, (LASALLE College of the Arts’ Diploma in Performance) and currently seeks further skills development under Beyond Dis:play: A theatre training and artist in residency programme supported by Very Special Arts Singapore. Claire is closely mentored by Artist-Educator, Peter Sau in her artistic endeavours. In 2008, she received a Distinction in the Trinity Guild Hall: Initial Text Examinations and a Grade 3 in Classical Ballet. In 2020, she was chosen to be part of the Philip Yeo Initiatives Associates Programmes for her vision to create inclusive and accessible spaces for learning and art making.

In the 2 years since she graduated, she has made ripples in the arts scene-writing and directing several children and youth web series and assembly school shows, developing and teaching speech and drama curriculums for 4 years and above, and performed in notable events including National Gallery’s Light to Night Festival 2020, National Writers Festival 2020, National Heritage Festival 2021, Connections: A British Council Showcase 2021 and was a panelist in the International Arts and Disability Forum 2020. She was also recently covered in TODAY’s Gen Y Speaks and Vogue Singapore.

Teaching Philosophy

“Every breath is a new purpose, a new possibility and a new life.”

Theatre-making is a rehearsal of life – the deep discovery and understanding of being more human each and every time. As we navigate this journey without hierarchy, social class or judgement, we will encounter the endless possibilities and treasures that real life often conceals.

As equals, let’s be open-minded, hungry, daring and allow our imaginations to run wild for the most creative exchanges and broadening of mindsets. And if it’s humanity that guides us, the value we can create in the wider community is boundless.
